Primary Curriculum

The school provides a deep, broad and balanced curriculum that consistently offers rich, varied and highly engaging lessons and extra-curricular opportunities to allow all children to develop their skills and abilities to their full potential.

STREAM – a holistic approach

The STREAM curriculum is designed to help students learn academically, socially, and emotionally through a framework that provides opportunities to develop perseverance through trial & error, practice leadership and communication, explore careers, and ultimately grow into globally competent citizens.

Years 1 and 2

In Year 1, children move from the Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1.

The end of Foundation Stage assessment (the Foundation Stage Profile) provides a clear benchmark of children’s attainment. The assessment profile, together with ongoing teacher assessment, informs planning and teaching across the broader Year 1 curriculum. The profile enables teachers to identify children’s performance and progress and helps them plan how to address any gaps in learning. Helping children to recognize their progress maintains their enthusiasm and motivation.

Students become more independent and there are growing expectations about what they can achieve. The school calendar has a good mix of special days and events that allow students additional opportunities to enjoy their school days.

Students in Years 1 and 2 are taught by specialist teachers for PE, French and Computer Studies

From Year 1 upwards, students can be involved in the extensive Co-Curricular Activity programs which helps them develop a range of interests and provides breadth to the curriculum.

Years 3 and 4

Year 3 is the beginning of Key Stage 2 and is seen as a transition year, where the students are developing their understanding of how they learn and independence towards the next stage of their education.

Students are increasingly encouraged to recognize their progress and to begin to develop more independent ways of working. Teachers provide regular and impactful feedback so that students can review their work and continue to develop it to a higher level, setting achievable challenges is important. Motivation and enthusiasm are therefore maintained, as are the strong home-school links and clear lines of communication.

Students in Year 3 and above are taught by specialist teachers for PE, Music, French, Computer Studies and Drama.

In Year 5 the preparation for the transition to the Senior School begins.

A close system of academic tracking operates, with external standardized assessments in English, Mathematics, Reading and Science.
